UNC Tops No. 8 Georgia for Fourth Ranked Win
March 13, 2019 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL – Limiting the highest scoring offense in the nation to one run, North Carolina downed No. 8 Georgia, 3-1, on the road Wednesday night at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga.
Â
Throwing her seventh complete game of the season, Brittany Pickett shutdown the powerhouse offense to a mere four hits, striking out a season-high, nine batters. The win marks Carolina's fourth top-25 win of the season. UNC improves to 12-9 while Georgia falls to 24-4
Â
"Brittany did a great job with her pitches," head coach Donna J. Papa said. "Her off-speed was working really well. To keep Alyssa DiCarlo from doing anything up at the plate and shutout six of seven leadoff batters – that's huge for us. It stops momentum. We did a lot of good things. It was a grind. It was a really good team win. Our hitters were very patient and had quality at-bats. We did all the things we needed to do. We played solid defense. Brittany pitched outstanding. I'm really proud of what the team did today. They stayed the course, stayed with our plan and just kept attacking."
