LeGette Sets Home Run Record, Softball Falls In Extras, 16-14

There was history in the first inning with Emily LeGette hitting her program record 25th home run of the season. It also marked the 93rd home run of the season for the Tar Heels which breaks the record that was previously set in 2015.

Shelby Barbee and MC Eaton tacked on home runs in the second and third innings to cut the deficit to 5-3.

 Three runs in the top of the fourth made it 8-3 Gamecocks and that's when the Carolina offense started to click. An eight run fourth inning with seven two-out runs gave UNC an 11-8 lead.

Eaton made it 12-8 with an RBI single in the fifth inning. South Carolina didn't go away though, plating four in the sixth to tie the game.

Sanaa Thompson put the Tar Heels back in front with a two-RBI double in the sixth inning to make it a 14-12 game.

With two outs and two strikes in the top of the seventh inning, South Carolina hit a two-RBI single down the right field line to tie the game back up.

In the bottom half of the seventh inning the UNC offense didn't score for the first time all game. In the eight inning South Carolina hit a two run home run to take a 16-14 lead and the UNC bats went down 1-2-3 in the bottom half to end the game.

Carolina now heads to No. 13 Virginia Tech to close out the regular season with three games beginning on Friday.
