Softball Drops Regular Season Finale To No. 13 Virginia Tech, 5-4

BLACKSBURG, Va. – UNC softball fell to No. 13 Virginia Tech in its regular season finale on Sunday, 5-4.

Emily LeGette capped off a historic regular season with another home run and three RBI. She finishes the regular season as the single season leader in homer runs (26), slugging (1.121), second in RBI (74), walks (43), and on base percentage (.570).
Â
After grabbing the first inning lead, Virginia Tech responded with three of its own to take a 3-1 lead after one.
Â
LeGette drove in her second RBI of the day to make it 3-2 in the third which was immediately followed by a Michele Tarpey triple to tie things up.
Â
In the fifth LeGette grounded out to the pitcher and Sanaa Thompson scored all the way from second to put UNC back in the lead.
Â
Jil Livengood was able to keep the Hokies off the board in the fifth but a two run home run in the sixth proved to be the difference.
Â
The Tar Heels now turn their attention to the ACC Tournament where their seeding and first round opponent will be decided next weekend after ACC regular season concludes.
