Softball Falls In 6-5 Heartbreaker To No. 13 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Carolina softball dropped a heartbreaker to No. 13 Virginia Tech on Friday night, 6-5.

UNC battled, taking the lead in the second inning with a solo home run from Raegan Jennings.
Â
After the Hokies regained the lead in the fourth inning, Michele Tarpey gave Carolina the lead right back with a two RBI single making it 3-2.
Â
In the bottom half of the fifth, Virginia Tech tried to score on a ball in the dirt but Kendall Frost made a perfect flip to Rayna Blackwell to end the inning with the Heels still in front.

In the sixth the Hokies loaded the bases and a hit by pitch and a walk gave them a 4-3 advantage.

UNC responded with an RBI single from Shelby Barbee to tie things back up in the seventh. Sahara Wilson then scored on a wild pitch to put the Tar Heels in front 5-4.

Virginia Tech walked it off in the bottom half of the seventh to get the win.

Jil Livengood was outstanding, holding the high-powered Virginia Tech offense to just two runs in 4.2 innings.

Carolina will look to bounce back tomorrow at 3 p.m. on ACCN

- Emily LeGette got a hit in the first inning and then was walked in her next three plate appearances, she is now tied for fifth most in a single season with 41
