Softball Goes 2-0, Ends Day With 11-0 Run Rule Win

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -Â The softball bats were on fire again today, scoring a combined 19 runs across two wins. The pitching was just as good, only allowing a single run in the first game.

In the first game of the doubleheader for Carolina, the offense started off slow as they plated two runs through the first four innings.Â

Taking a 2-0 lead into the fourth, Bryant was able to get on board with a solo shot. Carolina responded to Bryant's home run in the fourth as Carly Maxton shut down the Bulldogs in the fifth.Â

The offense opened with a two-run single from Michele Tarpey. Off to one of the hottest starts in the nation, Shelby Barbee, once again delivered, driving home another run with a sac-fly. Carolina added another run courtesy of a double steal by Tarpey and Emily LeGette, making it 6-1. Sanaa Thompson pushed the lead to seven as she drilled the ball to left field and hit the jets for a two-run inside-the-park home run, which was her first career.
On the pitching side, Kendall Frost put together four strong innings, as Carly Maxton picked the first save of the season for the Tar Heels.

One of the many offensive highlights was Raegan Jennings. She had two career home runs heading into today's game and proceeded to send two jacks over the fence to double her career total in one night.

Shelby Barbee continued her insane start to the year with her fourth home run of the young season. Through six games, Barbee has four home runs and 11 RBI.

Sanaa Thompson had a fantastic day at the plate, going 6-7 at the plate, including going 4-4 in the first game.

Carolina turns its attention to a double header with Monmouth and Bryant tomorrow, beginning at 12:30 pm.
