How It Happened
- Chloe Humphrey got UNC on the board first for the second game in a row, netting two in a row in the opening three minutes to spark a 21-0 run that would last until 6:26 in the final quarter.
- The Tar Heels tacked on nine additional goals – including three more from C. Humphrey – to grab an 11-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. UNC's defense has now kept its opponent scoreless in back-to-back games.
- Carolina added four more goals in the second quarter to go up by 15. Reilly Casey assisted on three of those goals in the second frame.
- UNC carried its sizable 15-0 lead into the break and had the advantage in every category: 25-4 shots, 20-1 shots on goal, 12-4 draw controls, 12-5 ground balls and 7-4 caused turnovers.
- Four more goals were scored by UNC coming out of halftime as the team continued to dominate possession. Kiley Mottice made it a hat trick just under six minutes into the third.
- Darcy Felter tallied the last goal of the third quarter and the first of the fourth, the latter which got her a hat trick of her own.
- The fourth Tar Heel hat trick came with 4:31 left on the clock from freshman Addison Pattillo, who saw the first three-goal performance of her young career.
- Eleven different Tar Heels scored at least one goal. C. Humphrey led all players with six points behind five goals and one assist – all which came in the first half.
- North Carolina dominated possession, holding an 18-8 edge in draw controls. GraceAnn Leonard had a game-high four from the circle.
- UNC fired off 38 shots to LU's seven with a 30-4 edge in shots on goal. 78.9% of Carolina's shots were on cage.
- Thirteen turnovers were caused by Tar Heels compared to six by the Flames. Ten different players had at least one with Julia Ford, Eliza Osburn and Sophie Student having two each.
- The Tar Heels also finished with a 20-9 advantage in ground balls. Kaleigh Harden had a career-high four.
- Three goalies split time in cage for UNC. Lexi Zenk had a pair of saves in her collegiate debut.
- The Tar Heels improve to 5-0 in the all-time series against Liberty. UNC has out-scored LU 102-20 across five meetings.
- This was the fifth time in school history UNC has held its opposition to just one goal, also doing so vs. Temple (3/18/99), Virginia Tech (3/27/01), Elon (3/13/18) and Virginia Tech (3/13/21).
- Carolina was one goal away from matching its program record of 24 single-game goals. That was last done against Virginia on May 15, 2022.
- All three Humphrey sisters scored during the contest for the first time this season, just two games in. They are the only current trio of sisters in Division I in different classes.
- Mottice had the fourth 4+ goal performance of her career. Felter tallied her fifth career hat trick.
- Sam Forrest, Osburn and Brooklyn Walker-Welch scored their first career goals.
