Top-5 Matchup At Florida Up Next For Women’s Lacrosse

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The first top-5 matchup of the season takes place this weekend for No. 3 North Carolina women's lacrosse, which heads to the Sunshine State for a battle at No. 5 Florida on Saturday, Feb. 15, in Gainesville.
Action will get underway at noon ET at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. John Christovich will be on call for the game on ESPN+.

Ten Things to Know
- This is the 18th meeting between North Carolina and Florida in program history with UNC leading the series at 13-4. The Tar Heels are 4-0 in contests played in Gainesville.
- Carolina is coming off a 23-1 win at Liberty on Feb. 9. That matched the program record for fewest goals allowed for the fifth time in school history, and first since 2021.
- Through two games, UNC has outscored its opponents 37-3 while out-shooting them 70-23. The team has kept its opponent scoreless in the first and third quarters in both games.
- The Tar Heels rank first in the NCAA in scoring defense with 1.5 goals allowed per game. They also rank first with 23 assists, 60 points and .769 save percentage.
- Redshirt junior defender Sam Forrest was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 11, the first such honor of her career. She is the first defensive winner for UNC since Alecia Nicholas on Feb. 13, 2023.
- Forrest and Brooklyn Walker-Welch, both defenders, scored their first career goals at Liberty. The duo has combined for two goals, two caused turnovers and five ground balls so far this year as anchors of UNC's defense.
- The first two goal scorers of the season for UNC – Chloe Humphrey and Kate Levy – are the last two USA Lacrosse National High School Players of the Year. They have combined for 16 points through two games.
- Humphrey paces UNC's offense with a team-leading eight goals and 10 points. She had five goals and one assist for six points at Liberty – all in the first quarter.
- The Tar Heels are ranked No. 3 in this week's IWLCA Poll after starting out at No. 4 in preseason polls. They were picked second in the ACC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- It was announced on Thursday that head coach Jenny Levy will be inducted into the IWLCA Hall of Fame for the Class of 2025. She is also a member of the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
