No. 1 Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Virginia Tech To Advance to ACC Semis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Top-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse used its usual stifling defense and a clinical attack to roll past Virginia Tech, 19-9, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday. Ashley Humphrey led the way with four goals and four assists, while the defense held the Hokies to just three first-half goals before cruising to victory in the second.
The Tar Heels improved their nation-leading win streak to 16 games (16-0), while the Hokies fell to 9-9.

- Marissa White opened the scoring with a beautiful behind-the-back goal.
- Ashley Humphrey netted two in a row to push Carolina's lead to 3-0.
- A great transition goal off a turnover saw Olivia Vergano get on the board from Marissa White.
- Betty Nelson with a point-blank save that led to a transition rocket for Olivia Vergano's second.
- Eliza Osburn got on the board early in the second to make it 7-2 Carolina.
- Marissa White with her second of a lovely feed from Addison Pattillo made it 8-2 at the media TO in the second.
- Caroline Godine with a heater from 8-meters pushed it to 9-2 and Kaleigh Harden added one to make it 10-2.
- Ashley Humphrey bagged a first-half hat trick and made it 11-2.
- Carolina's top-ranked defense allowed just three goals in the first half. Heels led 11-3 at the break.
- Chloe Humphrey came out firing in the second with two goals in four minutes.
- Eliza Osburn scored her second to give the Heels a 14-5 lead.
- Kaleigh Harden caused a turnover then hit Ashley Humphrey downfield who set-up Chloe Humphrey for a glorious transition goal.
- Ashley Humphrey's fourth made it 17-6 for UNC at the end of the third.
- Addison Pattillo restored UNC's 10-goal lead with two in a row to complete her hat trick, making it 18-8 midway through the fourth.
