Tar Heels Set To Host Hokies Sunday In ACC Opener

CHAPEL HILL—North Carolina's men's tennis team, ranked second in the nation in this week's Oracle/ITA Team Rankings, will begin Atlantic Coast Conference play at home this weekend against Virginia Tech.
The Tar Heels and Hokies will meet at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, immediately following the 11 a.m. match between the UNC and Virginia Tech women's teams (the start of the men's match could be delayed slightly, depending on the finish of the women's match).
Carolina (10-1) has nine wins by shutout this season, five of which have come against ranked opponents in the ITA poll.
Four Tar Heels are ranked individually in the ITA rankings, led by No. 11 William Blumberg. Other UNC players ranked include No. 42 Benjamin Sigouin, No. 47 Rinky Hijikata and No. 103 Josh Peck.
A pair of Carolina doubles teams are ranked, including No. 4 Mac Kiger and Simon Soendergaard and No. 16 Blumberg and Brian Cernoch.
Fans attending Sunday's men's match will receive free food after the doubles point. Concessions also will be available for sale throughout the day.
Following Sunday's match against the Hokies, Carolina will begin a three-match road swing with upcoming dates at No. 9 North Carolina State (March 4), No. 20 Miami (March 13) and No. 15 Florida State (March 15).
