Mayew & Djakouris Set For UTR Pro Summer Slam National Championship

The future of tennis will be on display this week as the second annual UTR Pro Summer Slam National Championships takes place at Florida State University.
Thirty-two of the best college tennis players from across the country will compete for $50,000 in prize money and national titles at the series-ending five-day event, which begins Tuesday. The men's and women's national championships will offer prize money and five guaranteed matches for all 32 players across both draws.
Tar Heel sophomore Ian Mayew and 2026 senior Constantinos Djakouris are two of the 16 players in the men's field. Mayew is the top-rated player in the men's draw, whle Djakouris is fourth.
Dozens of players have competed on the UTR Pro Tennis Tour before enjoying success on the game's biggest stages. Top Americans Ben Shelton (two-time Grand Slam semifinalist), Learner Tien (2026 Australian Open quarterfinalist) and Iva Jovic (2026 Australian Open quarterfinalist), are just a few of the players who competed at UTR Pro Tennis events before making deep runs at major championships. Only time will tell which of the collegiate players competing this week in Tallahassee will soon become global champions.

The championships will feature players from some of the top college tennis programs in the U.S., including recent national champions Wake Forest University, Texas A&M, and TCU. These players and dozens of others have competed all summer on the UTR Pro Summer Slam, which began in mid-May and offered $500,000 in total prize money, with 32 events taking place at 12 universities.
The series makes it easy for college tennis players to experience pro tennis while staying close to home and, therefore, further reducing travel expenses. By playing often and well, players also earn valuable UTR Tour Card points, which help them improve their standing in the year-long points race that features year-end payouts for the top 100 in each gender.
