Men's Tennis Sweeps Hokies, 4-0, To Advance At ACCs

Ranked 46th in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings and seeded 11th in the tournament, Carolina improved to 14-10 overall with its victory. The Hokies fell to 6-16.
The Tar Heels moved to 2-1 this season in dual matches against Virginia Tech. UNC beat the Hokies, 4-0, in late January at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C., before Tech returned the favor with a 4-2 in the ACC regular season in Blacksburg.

How it Happened — Doubles
• Carolina dominated all three doubles matches.
• Niels Ratiu and Chris Xu picked up the first Tar Heel victory of the day, 6-3, over Patrik Jurina and Ilyas Milad Fahim on court two. The UNC duo improved their record to 16-6 this season.
• Moments later, 34th-ranked Roan Jones and Anthony Wright topped #84 Blake Hilsen and Eyal Shumilov, 6-2, on court one to claim the doubles point.
• Ian Mayew and Logan Zapp led their match on court three, 5-4, when it went unfinished.
How it Happened — Singles
• The Tar Heels grabbed first-set wins in five of six singles matches.
• Constantinos Djakouris won his fifth consecutive match and improved to 17-8 overall this season (15-4 in dual matches) with his 6-4, 6-0 win on court five over Julian Lozano.
• Five minutes later, Ratiu made it 3-0 Tar Heels with a 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory on court four over Drew Fishback.
• Freshman Kase Schinnerer won his fourth clinching singles match of the year, topping Frank Thompson, 6-3, 7-6 (3) on court six to complete the 4-0 team win.
