Sigouin Returning Home As Men's Tennis Assistant Coach

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Former Tar Heel All-America, national champion and professional player Ben Sigouin is returning to Chapel Hill as an assistant coach with the Carolina men's tennis program, head coach Sam Paul announced on Wednesday.
Sigouin played at Carolina from 2018-22 during the most successful period in program history, helping lead the Tar Heels to the 2021 ITA National Team Indoor Championship title while picking up numerous individual honors along the way, including All-America distinction in 2019.
He joins longtime associate head coach Tripp Phillips on Paul's staff for the 2026-27 season.
"I am thrilled to be coming home to the University of North Carolina, where I spent five years with my best friends, met my wife & won a national championship," Sigouin says. "Carolina family means everything to my wife and me, and Chapel Hill will always be home. I look forward to being a part of building this program with the great group of guys we have here. Coach Paul and Tripp have always been family to me, and I am grateful to them for this opportunity. Go Heels!"

"He's done it all and thrived on every level, whether it's as a junior player, in college or in the pros, and he's coached successfully at the college level. He's one of the best players in program history, and I know he's going to be a tremendous asset for our program. We know him very well, and he has great character. His level of experience and success will obviously help our guys. We're excited about how much he's going to help our program."
Sigouin was a four-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection during his five-year Tar Heel career and earned recognition as the 2018 ACC Rookie of the Year. He won the clinching singles match over Ohio State in the 2019 NCAA Championship quarterfinals to put Carolina in the NCAA Final Four for the second consecutive year. He also picked up a singles win in the 2019 NCAA round of 16 as the Tar Heels won at Southern California to hand the Trojans their first-ever NCAA loss at home.
A native of Vancouver, Canada, Sigouin was an elite junior player ranked as high as No. 4 in the ITF World Junior Rankings while playing in all four junior Grand Slams. He is a six-time Canadian National Champion and a member of the 2015 Junior Davis Cup team that won the championship for Canada. He was the doubles runner-up in the boys' draw at the 2016 U.S. Open and a quarterfinalist in singles at the 2016 French Open.
Sigouin is a 2022 UNC graduate with a degree in exercise and sport science in the sport administration program who earned multiple honors on the All-ACC Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll. He and his wife, Caroline, a fellow '22 Carolina graduate, met while they were students in Chapel Hill.
After a professional career when he posted a career-high ATP World Ranking of No. 523 in singles and No. 198 in doubles, Sigouin spent the 2025-26 season as an assistant coach at Florida State University.
