No. 19 NC State Stops Men's Tennis, 4-3

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—NC State came from behind to beat North Carolina's men's tennis team, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Chewning Tennis Center.
It was the final scheduled home matches for a trio of graduating Tar Heels: seniors Constantinos Djakouris and Roan Jones and graduate student Logan Zapp, all of whom made their final appearances at the Chewning Tennis Center.
Carolina, ranked No. 47 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won a tightly-contested doubles point, 2-1, to take an early lead at 1-0.
The 19th-ranked Wolfpack won the first three singles decisions to take a 3-2 lead, then Chris Xu topped #17 Martin Borisiouk in three sets to tie it at 3-all before NCSU won the clincher.
NC State improved to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the win. Carolina fell to 11-9, 4-6.

Carolina will play its last three regular season matches on the road at Miami (April 3), Florida State (April 5) and Duke (April 11).
How it Happened — Doubles
• Niels Ratiu and Chris Xu started doubles play with a bang for the Tar Heels, cruising to a 6-1 win on court two over William Manning and Charlie Camus of the Wolfpack.
• State responded with a win on court one in a battle of ranked teams. Jules Leroux and Martin Borisiouk, ranked 21st by the ITA, topped No. 20 Roan Jones and Anthony Wright, 6-4.
• Ian Mayew and Logan Zapp won the clincher with a 7-6 (2) win over Cody Benton and Ainius Sabaliauskus on court three.
How it Happened — Singles
• Carolina took a 2-0 lead when Constantinos Djakouris topped Sabaliauskus in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3, on No. 4.
• The Wolfpack pulled within a point when Darius Pop beat Zapp, 6-1, 6-2, on court six.
• State tied the match at 2-2 when Camus came from behind to defeat Ratiu, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 on five.
• Minutes later, Leroux gave the Pack its third win in a row when Leroux beat Jones 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, on court two.
• Xu tied the score at 3-3 with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 victory over the 17th-ranked Borisiouk on court one. It is the highest-ranked opponent Xu has defeated in his career.
• William Manning, ranked #88 in singles, came from behind to beat Mayew, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, on number three for the cincher.

"It was a tough match. We had some situations in some third sets when we just didn't get it done in three matches, including some where we were up some breaks. Credit to NC State. They played some good points and toughed it out. A couple of points here or there made the difference.
