MTEN Beats Georgia Tech, 4-2, For Second Straight Win

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—North Carolina jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on to defeat Georgia Tech, 4-2, on a warm Sunday at the Chewning Tennis Center. Freshman Kase Schinnerer won the clinching singles match for the second consecutive match.
The victory moved the 69th-ranked Tar Heels to 11-7 this season and evened their Atlantic Coast Conference record at 4-4. The 52nd-ranked Yellow Jackets fell to 10-8, 2-6 after beating Duke on Friday in Durham.

Carolina will play itsfinal two home matches of the 2025-26 regular season next weekend when it hosts Wake Forest and NC State next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
How it Happened — Doubles
• Roan Jones and Anthony Wright, the nation's 20th-ranked doubles team, topped Christophe Clement and Hidde Schoenmakers, 6-3, on court one to start doubles play on a good note for the Tar Heels.
• The Tar Heels clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win by Chris Xu and Niels Ratiu on court two. Xu and Ratiu led, 5-1, before holding on for the 6-4 victory.
How it Happened — Singles
• Ian Mayew put the Tar Heels ahead, 2-0, with an impressive, 6-2, 6-2 win on court three over Gianluca Carlini for his second singles victory of the weekend.
• Minutes later, Ratiu won his second singles match in a row, 6-4, 6-2, over Elias Shokry on court five to make the score 3-0 Tar Heels.
• The Yellow Jackets picked up consecutive wins on courts two and four to make the score 3-2. On two, Schoenmakers topped Xu, 6-2, 6-4, followed by a 6-4, 6-1 win by Jonathan Irwanto over Constantinos Djakouris on four.
• Schinnerer dropped his first set, 6-3, to Richard Biagiotti before winning the second frame, 6-4. In the third set, Schinnerer raced out to a 5-0 lead with back-to-back breaks and three holds before winning, 6-1. It was his second consecutive clinching win of the weekend after doing the same in Friday's win over Clemson in Chapel Hill.
