UNC Softball Splits In Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of North Carolina softball team found itself on both sides of the mercy rule Friday at the Worth Invitational, beating Southwest Missouri State 9-1 and falling 8-0 to host Oklahoma. Both games were stopped in the bottom of the sixth.
The Tar Heels are now 14-6-1 on the season and will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1:15 p.m. CST Saturday in their only game of the day. Carolina will play two games on Sunday before heading to California for another tournament.
Against Southwest Missouri State, UNC had 12 hits, six of them in the sixth and final inning. Senior Michelle Semmes, junior Kelly Ramsey and sophomore Michael Parrott accounted for two each. Parrott (7-1) gave up just two hits and struck out six to earn the win for the Tar Heels.
Against the fifth-ranked Sooners, Carolina managed just one hit, an infield single by Semmes in the fourth inning. UNC starter Radara McHugh (7-5) gave up only three hits but walked eight in 4 1/3 innings of work. Parrott closed out the game for Carolina, allowing three hits and Oklahoma's final run, which ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jennifer Stewart earned the win for Oklahoma, striking out seven and walking none.
