Rowing Closes Out Lake Wheeler Invitational With Fifth-Place Finish

RALEIGH, N.C. – Wrapping up action on the second day of the Lake Wheeler Invitational, No. 22 North Carolina rowing posted multiple weekend-best times in Raleigh on Saturday morning and finished the 20-team event with 63 points to place fifth overall.
"We had solid performances across all boat classes and leave this weekend hungry for more. Excited to take the fire into the next few weeks before our conference championship," said head coach Erin Neppel. "Another great event - awesome working with Duke to make a fantastic regatta experience for everyone."

Opening the morning on a high note, the 4V8 and 3V8 each rattled off first-place victories in its respective races. The 4V8 edged out Boston College for a six-second margin of victory at 6:49.7.Â

With the best time of the day from a 3V8 crew, Carolina defeated ranked squads from Virginia and Duke at 6:32.5.

The 2V4 posted its fastest time of the weekend at 7:16.1 to earn a second-place finish in its race and beat Duke. In a contentious V4 race, the Tar Heels came in third behind Virginia and Duke with a time of 7:15.8.

With another best time of the weekend, the 2V8 posted a time of 6:30.1 in its race to beat Duke and finish second.

In a competitive V8 final, the Tar Heels came in fourth overall with a time of 6:22.7.

Carolina returns to the water at Lake Wheeler once again, May 15-16, for the 2026 ACC Rowing Championships.
