Tar Heels Wrap Up Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational With Multiple First-Place Crews
March 15, 2026 | Women's Rowing
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Wrapping up its opening regatta of the season, North Carolina rowing picked up multiple first-place finishes in the final morning of racing from Melton Lake.
"Overall it was a solid first effort this spring as a program. We had some good performances, but we also know we have a ton of selection to get through, folks figuring it out and some combinations we are excited to try," remarked head coach Erin Neppel. "This year, spring break is after this event so we are looking forward to the training focus this week and getting to it."
The 3V8 crew began the morning with a first-place race with a time of 6:45.908 to beat out Carolina's 4V8 boat as well as Duke and Navy. The Tar Heel 2V4 and V4 crews both finished in second place in their races behind Duke.
The 2V8 boat earned its third first place finish of the weekend, with a time of 6:41.049 against Duke and Navy to come away with a clean sweep on the water.
Carolina's V8 finished in second in its final race in Tennessee, with a time of 6:43.453 to beat out Navy.
The Tar Heels head back on the water next weekend on March 21, for an exhibition against High Point before its next regatta at the Sunshine State Invitational in Sarasota Florida from March 27-28.
