Golden Bears Trip Men's Tennis, 4-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—The University of California's men's tennis team won the doubles point and went on to defeat North Carolina, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon on the outdoor courts at the Chewning Tennis Center.
The Golden Bears improved to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the victory. The Tar Heels dropped to 8-4, 1-1.

How it Happened — Doubles
• Cal grabbed the first doubles match when #78 Bernardo Munk Mesa and Paris Pouatcha beat UNC's freshman team of Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer at No. 3.
• On court one, Roan Jones and Anthony Wright continued their strong play, picking up two early breaks to take a 4-0 lead over #22 Timofey Stepanov and Tiago Silva, eventually winning, 6-2, for their second victory over a top-25 ranked duo this weekend.
• The Golden Bears clinched the doubles point on court two when Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski and Alex Aney (Cal) topped Chris Xu and Logan Zapp, 6-2.
How it Happened — Singles
• Mayew, ranked #87, made quick work of #125 Silva in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, on court No. 3 to tie the team score at 1-1.
• Cal's Paris Pouatcha beat Nick Mangiapane, 6-2, 6-2, on court five to give the Bears back the lead at 2-1.
• Minutes later Jones replied to tie the score on court two. He won the first set, 6-4, then used a break to take a 5-1 lead in the second frame and held serve for the 6-4, 6-1 win.
• The Golden Bears took a 3-2 lead with a three-set win by Munk Mesa over Constantinos Djakouris, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
• On court No. 1, Xu took the first set, 7-6 (4), then dropped the second, 6-1, and the third, 7-5, to close the day.
