Men's Tennis Sweeps BC, 7-0

CHARLOTTE—North Carolina cruised to a 7-0 win over Boston College without losing a set on Thursday afternoon in a neutral site match on the outdoor courts at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Campus on the campus of Charlotte.
Freshman Kase Schinnerer won the clinching singles match for the Tar Heels at the No. 6 spot in the lineup, his first career clincher as a collegian.
The Tar Heels improved to 9-4 overall this season, including 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Eagles lost their third match in a row and fell to 4-5, 0-3

How it Happened — Doubles
• Chris Xu and Nick Mangiapane grabbed the first doubles win of the day at the No. 2 slot, topping Aidan Pack and Matthew Overvelde, 6-3, in just 25 minutes.
• Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer picked up a break to take a 5-4 lead in their match at No. 3 doubles, then topped Luke Levanat and Lukas Rais, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point.
How it Happened — Singles
• Roan Jones, ranked No. 42 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings, made quick work of Matvey Greschner, 6-4, 6-2, in just over an hour at No. 2 singles to give UNC a 2-0 lead.
• Sophomore Anthony Wright followed just five minutes later with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Rais, making the team score 3-0.
• Schinnerer won the clincher, his first career ACC singles victory, 6-2, 6-3 over Levanat at No. 6.
• Mayew, ranked #82 this week by the ITA, won for the 10th time in his last 12 singles decisions, making the score 5-0 Tar Heels with his 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Matthew Carioscia.
• Senior Constantinos Djakouris followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Overvelde at No. 4.
• Xu's win at No. 1 singles wrapped up the day for Carolina. He outlasted Mai Gao in a marathon first set, 7-6, when he won the tiebreaker, 10-8. Xu breezed to a 6-1 win in the second set to complete the 7-0 team win.
