Tar Heel Softball Splits At Crimson Classic

The University of North Carolina softball team split a pair of games at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Saturday, beating Western Kentucky 5-1 and falling 10-0 to Alabama in five innings.
In their first game of the day, the Tar Heels spotted WKU an unearned run in the bottom of the first, but didn't allow another one. Carolina scored two runs in the top of the third and three in the top of the fourth to improve to 8-6 on the season.
Junior outfielder Quinn Porter was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, and senior Kelly Ramsey added two more RBI. Junior Tiffany Tolleson went 2-for-5. Freshman Ashley Allen earned the win, giving up five hits and striking out two while allowing no earned runs.
The Tar Heels weren't so successful in their second game of the day. For the second day in a row, they were shutout by No. 14 Alabama, 10-0 after five innings. The Tar Heels got just one hit, a single by Porter. Senior Shannon Walsh started on the mound and took the loss for UNC.
Carolina (8-7) will wrap up play in the Crimson Classic on Sunday, playing both Alabama and Western Kentucky.
