Matt Shannon is a great athlete. He runs very well.
He has great feet and change of direction.
A terrific athlete and hard worker.
I anticipate him make major contributions this year.
General: An excellent 6-4, 205-pound defenseman.
Prep: Played defense for Ridgefield High School where his coaches were Roy Colsey and Alfred Meola...captained both his soccer and lacrosse teams as a senior...played defense and long-stick midfield in lacrosse and defensive midfield on the soccer field...as a senior he was named second-team All-FCIAC, first-team All-State and to the US Lacrosse All-America team...he led his team to the FCIAC championship while Ridgefield was the Class L state champion in 2011...as a junior he was second-team All-State and All-FCIAC...after his junior year he was a member of the Under Armour New England Underclassmen All-America Team...was ranked among the Top 25 seniors in the nation by ESPN Rise Magazine heading into this senior season...the 2009 team he played on went 20-2 and ended the season ranked No. 18 by LaxPower.com...had four goals and 16 assists in his career...a high honor student...volunteers with the Ridgefield Animal Shelter and SafeRides of Ridgefield...FBLA member and won excellence in business law award.

Section #1 (Lacrosse Related)
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel lacrosse player is the chance to compete at the highest level.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach Breschi is his energy and dedication to winning.
3. Since last year the aspects of my training I've worked on the most are stamina and strength.
4. My best friend on another college lacrosse team is Andrew Buckanavage (Vermont).
5. My greatest strength as a lacrosse player is communication.
Section #2 (Matt's Interests)
1. Away from the lacrosse field and academic pursuits I like to spend time watching movies and listening to music.
2. The best movie I've seen recently is Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be basketball.
4. The music act I'd most like to see in person is Jay-Z.
5. The personal interest I have that might surprise my teammates is shoes.

1. After a game at Fetzer Field, I'd like to see a tailgate spread that included ribs.
2. My favorite beverage is Cherry Coke.
3. My favorite food made by a relative is my dad's chicken sandwiches.
4. My favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill is Time-Out.
5. My favorite guilty pleasure food wise is Twinkies.
