Men's Lacrosse Falls To No. 9 Army, 13-12

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked North Carolina men's lacrosse team (7-2) fell to No. 9 Army (8-1), 13-12, Saturday afternoon in nonconference action.
How It Happened
• After falling behind 2-0 to start the contest, Dominic Pietramala and Owen Duffy combined for a 3-0 spurt, giving Carolina the lead with 4:35 remaining in the opening quarter.
• The host Black Knights answered with two-straight scores to close the first, as Carolina trailed 4-3 after 15 minutes.
• To begin the second, a goal each from Ty English, Duffy and Ryan Levy gave Carolina its largest lead of the game, a 6-4 edge with 10:19 remaining in the first half.
• Army followed with four of the next five goals, taking an 8-7 halftime lead.
• Hill Plunkett started the second half with a goal for Army, with Pietramala and James Matan connecting on back-to-back goals, tying the score at nine-all with 11:15 remaining in the third.
• From the 6:15 mark in the third to 12:24 in the final quarter, the Black Knights scored four of the next five goals, giving Army a 13-10 lead.
• Duffy and Levy brought the deficit within one with 6:16 remaining, as Army held on for the 13-12 verdict.
Tar Heel Performances
• Duffy led the Tar Heels with six points on the day (three goals, three assists).
• Pietramala (three goals), Levy (two goals) and English (two goals) each posted multiple scores.
• Brady Wambach (19-26) helped Carolina win the faceoff battle.
• Michael Gianforcaro made eight saves on the day.

• Saturday was the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools, with Carolina holding a 3-2 edge in the series.
• The matchup between the programs was the first at West Point since the 1983 NCAA Quarterfinal.
