No. 6 Men's Lacrosse Cruises To 18-7 Win Over Hofstra

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The sixth-ranked North Carolina men's lacrosse team (5-1) led wire-to-wire over Hofstra (4-2), 18-7, Saturday at Dorrance Field.
How It Happened
• The Tar Heels jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening five minutes, courtesy of Owen Duffy, Mason Szewczyk and Ty English.
• After a Hofstra goal, Carolina ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run, leading 10-1 after 15 minutes.
• Carolina outscored the Pride 5-3 in the second quarter, as James Matan scored twice, and Dewey Egan, Brady Wambach and Parker Hoffman hit the back of the net, entering halftime with a 15-4 lead.
• In the third, Hofstra's Trey Parkers scored the lone goal, trimming the deficit to 15-5.
• Dominic Pietramala, Egan and Brevin Wilson capped off the day in the fourth quarter, giving the Tar Heels the 18-7 victory.
Tar Heel Performances
• Egan led all players in the game with three goals, with Duffy, Matan and Wilson adding two goals each.
• 13 different Tar Heels scored on the day.
• Duffy dished out four assists, a season-high.
• Brady Wambach (20-23) and Colin Hannigan (5-6) combined to win the faceoff battle.
• Michael Gianforcaro and Kent Goode each played a half between the pipes for Carolina, combining for 11 saves.
Inside The Numbers
• Saturday was Carolina's seventh win in the series between the two schools.
• The 10 goals in the first quarter were the most for the Tar Heels in a quarter since March 19, 2023 against Dartmouth (10 goals in the third quarter).
• The 15 first half goals were the most for Carolina in a half since the season opening win against Mercer in 2023 (16 in the first half).
• Following the win, Wambach is now 56-73 at the faceoff stripe in the last three games.
• Brett Koopman's seven ground balls were a career best for the sophomore.
