Women’s Tennis Takes On Notre Dame In ACC Quarterfinal

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Second-seeded Carolina women's tennis is set to take on tenth-seeded Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals Friday evening. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start at Cary Tennis Park.
The Tar Heels start the journey to defend their title as back-to-back ACC Champions this weekend. UNC will open with a rematch against the Fighting Irish. The teams last clashed in March where Carolina earned a sweep at home.
As they head into postseason, the Tar Heels will look to experienced leadership by Reese Brantmeier and a spark from newcomers Maddy Zampardo and Anna Frey. Brantmeier, the reigning Singles National Champion and ACC Player of the Year, enters the tournament with a 14-1 record this spring including five-straight ranked singles wins.
Carolina's newcomers this year will look to continue making an impact in the lineup throughout postseason. Zampardo and Frey have combined for 21 singles wins and 10 doubles wins for the Tar Heels.

- Tatum Evans was tabbed ACC Player of the Week for the first time in her career Feb. 10. The junior went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles including a ranked singles win during the ITA Indoor Championships.
- Reese Brantmeier was named ACC Player of the Week for the second consecutive week (Feb. 3) after having another standout weekend for the Tar Heels going 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles while helping lead the team to two top-10 wins. Both of Brantmeier's singles wins clinched the team win for Carolina against no. 9 NC State and no. 1 Georgia.
- Reese Brantmeier and doubles partner Alanis Hamilton were tabbed ACC Doubles Team of the Week on Jan. 27 after topping two ranked opponents from Virginia and Charlotte. The duo has gone 5-1 to start the season.
- Oby Kajuru was tabbed ACC Player of the Week on Jan. 20 for the first time since she joined the program. No. 23 Oby Kajuru defeated no. 5 Savannah Dada-Mascoll from App State for the first ranked singles win among the Tar Heels this season. The win helped the graduate earn the weekly honor from the league.
- The Tar Heels downed no. 14 Virginia, 6-1, for their first ranked win of the 2026 campaign.
- With the team's win over App State, head coach Brian Kalbas reached 800 career wins. Kalbas remains the winningest active coach in NCAA tennis and just the third all-time to reach 800 wins.
- Partners Brantmeier/Hamilton and Kajuru/Maltby earned All-America honors in the fall after reaching the quarterfinals at the NCAA Individual Championships.
- Reese Brantmeier won the 2025 NCAA Singles National Championship and headed into the spring ranked no. 1 in singles.
- Brantmeier earned All-America honors in singles this fall making the senior eight-for-eight in All-America selections across her career.
