Women’s Tennis Opens NCAA Run With 4-0 Rout Of Charleston Southern

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament, fifth-seeded North Carolina rolled to a 4-0 victory over Charleston Southern from the Chewning Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Starting off doubles play hot, the duo of Susanna Maltby and Maddy Zampardo cruising to a 6-0 win on their court. The pair of Tatum Evans and Oby Kajuru clinched the doubles point for Carolina shortly after with a quick 6-1 victory.
The high energy continued as Anna Frey rolled to a two set decision on court five, followed quickly by Thea Rabman on court six in two sets as well as the Tar Heels went up 3-0 over the Buccaneers. It was No. 116 Maddy Zampardo on court three to clinch the match for Carolina with another two set victory to go on and defeat Charleston Southern, 4-0.
Advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, the Tar Heels take on South Carolina on Saturday afternoon in a battle of the Carolinas from the Chewning Tennis Center. First serve is set for 4 p.m. ET.
