Women’s Tennis Opens Road Swing With Win

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No. 5 University of North Carolina women's tennis went the distance before topping Miami, 4-3, Friday afternoon in Florida. The Tar Heels now have 10 ACC wins on the season and extend their win streak to four.
In doubles, no. 5 Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton rolled past the Hurricanes to secure a 6-0 victory on court one. Oby Kajuru and Maddy Zampardo later clinched the doubles point for Carolina with a 6-4 win. Despite dropping the doubles match on court three, the Tar Heels headed into singles play ahead 1-0.
No. 2 Reese Brantmeier extended Carolina's lead to 2-0 after a straight-set win over no. 36 Raquel Gonzalez.
Miami closed the gap at 2-2 after wins on courts two and four.
Maddy Zampardo dropped the first set, but stormed back to take the second, 6-1. The junior continued to battle against no. 116 Dominika Podhajecka before claiming the third set, 6-3. Zampardo's win gave UNC the edge at 3-2.
On court three, no. 31 Tatum Evans fell in a close match to Jaquelyn Ogunwale. After the loss, the teams were tied once more.
With the match on the line, Theadora Rabman stepped up for the Tar Heels. The junior dropped the first set before taking a close second set, 6-4. Rabman took control early in the third where she'd go on to win, 6-2, to clinch the match for Carolina.
