Women’s Tennis Falls, 4-2, In Heartbreaker Vs. NC State In ACC Semifinals

CARY, N.C. – Squaring off against rival three-seeded NC State in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament, second-seeded North Carolina women's tennis's spirited comeback effort was not enough, falling 4-2 on Saturday afternoon from the Cary Tennis Park.
Falling in doubles on courts one and two, NC State clinched the doubles point with Carolina facing a 1-0 deficit as it headed into singles action.
With No. 118 Alanis Hamilton and No. 36 Tatum Evans dropping straight-set matches on courts four and three, the Tar Heels found themselves with ground to make up on their remaining courts, trailing 3-0.
Picking up Carolina's first point of the day, Theadora Rabman withstood a three-set match on court six as heads turned to the Tar Heels' remaining courts, with ground to make up at 3-1.
After dropping the first set, No. 15 Oby Kajaru rattled off back-to-back sets to earn a win and put another point on the board for Carolina with two courts left and down 3-2.
Fighting to claw back, No. 121 Maddy Zampardo on court five and No. 2 Reese Brantmeier on court one took their matches to three sets, yet it wasn't enough to withstand the Wolfpack, with Brantmeier falling to clinch the match for NC State.
The Tar Heels await their postseason fate, with the NCAA Women's Tennis selection show slated for April 27 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
