May 29, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's lacrosse standout Chloe Humphrey was named the 2025 Tewaaraton Award winner at the Tewaaraton Foundation Banquet on Thursday night at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Humphrey is UNC's first Tewaaraton winner after being named the IWLCA Player of the Year on Wednesday.
The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States.
Chloe and sister Ashley were the 12th and 13th Tewaaraton finalists in UNC history and Chloe was the first freshman to be named a finalist on the women's side in the award's history. This was also the third time UNC had two finalists. Taylor Moreno and Jamie Ortega were both finalists in 2021, while Ortega was joined by Ally Mastroianni in 2022.
Humphrey, the freshman phenom from Darien, Conn., has taken the collegiate lacrosse world by storm. She delivered a historic 2025 season, racking up 90 goals and 28 assists for a staggering 118 points. Her 90 goals set a new NCAA freshman record, a UNC single-season record and powered the Tar Heels to their fourth National Championship. A first-team All-American, Humphrey also earned first-team All-ACC honors, ACC Tournament MVP, and NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. She recorded hat tricks in 18 of 22 games, including nine performances with five or more goals.
