No. 15 Men's Soccer To Host Evansville Thursday Night

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina men's soccer will finish off its season-opening home stand when it hosts Evansville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night at Dorrance Field. The Heels will look to continue their hot start to the season after winning both of their matches so far this season. The match is the back end of a doubleheader with the women's team. Of note for fans, one ticket will provide entry to both matches.

- This will be the third match-up in series history between Carolina and Evansville with the Tar Heels holding a 2-0-0 advantage.
- Head Coach Carlos Somoano is now in his 15th season at the helm of Carolina soccer and his 24th season overall with UNC men's soccer.
- The Tar Heels are 2-0-0 for the ninth time in Somoano's 15 seasons.
- Carolina entered United Soccer Coaches Top 25 this week at No. 15. Currently, the Heels have five ranked teams on their schedule along with SMU, who is receiving votes.

- The Carolina roster experienced some turnover between the 2024 and '25 seasons. The 29-man group is made up of 14 returners, of which four saw substantial action last season, seven transfers, and eight true freshmen. Of the 15 newcomers, eight arrived on campus for the spring semester.
- Incoming grad student Nacho Abeal made his presence felt in his first two matches as a Tar Heel. He scored in both games bringing his career total to 13. His goal against UCF was the fifth game-winning goal of his career.
- Newcomer Luca Nikolai started all 39 of his games at James Madison over the previous two seasons, notching five goals and six assists. He entered 2025 as a member of Top Drawer Soccer's Best XI and ranked No. 9 on their Top 100 list. He is also a member of the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List.
