Men’s Soccer Takes Care Of American, 2-0, Tuesday Night

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team claimed a 2-0 win over American on Tuesday night on Dorrance Field at Play2Dream Legacy Stadium. The Heels got goals from Luca Nikolai and Joschi Schelb in what was a dominant performance over the Eagles. UNC moved to 2-1-3 on the season, while American falls to 1-4-2.
The Heels held the Eagles shotless in the first half while posting 10 of their own. Riley Berge had one in the back of the net after heading home a free kick, but it was ruled out when Nico Loebus was judged to be offside and involved.
Carolina kept the pressure on in the second half posting another 10 shots to American's two. The Heels got the breakthrough when Berge beat the keeper to the ball and drew a penalty. Nikolai buried his second penalty in two games to put UNC in front. The, Heels did a nice job seeing out the game and sprung forward with Jace Donaway crossing to the penalty spot and Faraji Ramani making a smart touch back to Schelb. He took a touch by the defender and buried one for his fourth of the season.

- 21' – Riley Berge headed home a Nick Lockermann free kick but Nico Loebus was judged to have been offside and involved in the play.
- 27' – Ryan Zellefrow drew a foul in a dangerous area, but Joschi Schelb fired the free kick over the bar.
- 36' – Bertil Rygaard Hansen came close twice just miser the far corner with his left foot, then stinging the keeper's palms with his right foot.
- 54' – Nick Lockermann attempted a shot off a corner that bounced outside the box but it skipped right to the keeper.
- 58' – Rygaard Hansen created a yard of space and fired one across the keeper that just missed the far corner.
- 60' – Rygaard Hansen fired a low cross in but Zellefrow couldn't get his feet sorted out and his shot went wide.
- 68' – Max Fisher hit a lovely cross in but Schelb couldn't get good contact with his head and it trickled to the keeper.
- 70' – Rygaard Hansen got another cross in but Schelb can't beat the keeper with his header.
- 72' – Berge beat the keeper to the ball and was brought down, drawing a penalty. Nikolai converted for his second penalty in two games to put the Heels in front.
- 86' – Jace Donawa crossed, Faraji Ramani touched it back and Joschi Schelb buried it for a 2-0 UNC lead.
