Men’s Soccer Earns Hard-Fought Draw Against No. 1 Stanford

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team took it to the top-ranked Stanford Cardinal on Friday on Dorrance Field at Play2Dream Legacy Stadium. The Heels went in front twice, but a disputed penalty in the second half allowed them to level things. UNC remained on the hunt throughout the remainder of the match but couldn't find the winner.
Ryan Zellefrow put the Heels in front in the 13th minute, tapping in a saved shot by Bertil Rygaard Hansen. Then, Rygaard Hansen won a penalty that Luca Nikolai converted for Carolina's two goals.

- 13' – Bertil Rygaard Hansen forced the Stanford keeper into a save but Ryan Zellefrow was there to turn in the rebound for a Heels 1-0 lead.
- 37' – Stanford equalizes after a shot trickled across the goal mouth before being tapped in. The goal went to VAR for a potential offside but it stood.
- 51' – Bertil Rygaard Hansen blew past Stanford's defense and drew a foul in the box. Luca Nikolai scored the penalty and restored UNC's one-goal lead.
- 53' – Stanford earned a penalty of their own and converted to level again.
- 72' – Luca Nikolai had a header from point blank range ricochet off the keeper and Faraji Ramani's follow went just wide of the post.

- Ryan Zellefrow scored his first goal as a Tar Heel and the sixth of his career.
