Men's Soccer Welcomes Lipscomb To Dorrance For Saturday Night Tilt

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina men's soccer will host Lipscomb on Dorrance Field at Play2Dream Legacy Stadium Saturday at 7 p.m. The Heels are looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to No. 21 Clemson last Saturday, while the Bisons are currently on a two-game winning streak. Carolina enters the match at 2-23, while Lipscomb sits at 3-4-1 this season. Saturday's match is kids club night and the firsts 400 students will receive a free t-shirt. This is also a Fever game with students earning +2 Fever points for attending.

Tar Heel Tidbits

Carolina and Lipscomb are playing for just the second time. The two teams met last year with Carolina winning 3-0 in Nashville.
Head Coach Carlos Somoano is in his 16th season at the helm of Carolina soccer (25th overall). He holds a career record of 187-70-58.
Carolina's transfer class of Nick Lockermann, Nico Loebus, Joschi Schelb and Ryan Zellefrow was ranked No. 2 by TopDrawerSoccer, while its incoming freshman class was ranked 14th.
Schelb is off to a hot start, having scored in five of the seven matches so far this season. Zellefrow opened his UNC account with a goal vs. Stanford.
Luca Nikolai was drafted by NYCFC, but made the decision to return to Carolina to finish off his college career leading the Tar Heels. He's converted two penalties to go along with an assist on the season.
Carolina had six players listed on the Hermann Trophy Watch Lists. Lockermann earned a spot with the defenders, while Evans Dapaah, Loebus, Nikolai, Schelb and Zellefrow were listed on the midfielders list, although Schelb will play as a forward this season.
After four years with Andrew Cordes in goal, Alan Rutkowski has taken over the goalkeeping duties. The Elmwood, N.J. native served as Cordes' understudy last season after playing his club football with the New York Red Bulls.
