No. 2 Women’s Lacrosse Blows Out No. 20 Notre Dame In Three Quarters

SOUTH BEND, IND. – Second-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse held No. 20 Notre Dame scoreless over the final 24 minutes of game action to blow past the Fighting Irish, 14-3, in a weather-shortened contest. The Tar Heels finished the game on an 8-0 run before weather caused a delay at the third quarter break.
The Tar Heels kept their undefeated streak alive and improved to 11-0 (6-0 ACC) while the Fighting Irish fell to 6-6 (1-5 ACC).
How It Happened
The second-ranked Tar Heels will host No. 1 Boston College on Saturday, April 5 in a battle of the two top teams in the country. First draw on Alumni Day is set for 11 a.m. with the game airing on ESPNU.

How It Happened
- Kiley Mottice got the Tar Heels on the board less than 30 seconds into the game.
- Kaleigh Harden and Marissa White added tallied to give the Heels a 3-2 lad at the first media timeout.
- Ashley Humphrey assisted Chloe Humphrey for the 18th time this season to give UNC a 6-2 lead early in the 2nd.
- C. Humphrey gets her first half hat trick to push Carolina's lead to 7-3.
- All three Humphreys got in on the act as Nicole gave to Ashley, who assisted Chloe to make it 8-3.
- M. White netted her second of the half with 18 seconds left to push the lead to 9-3.
- The Heels gave up two goals in the first four minutes of the game and only one the remaining 26 minutes. B. Nelson ended the half with six saves.
- Olivia Vergano scores a rocket to open the 2nd-half scoring.
- C. Humphrey from guess who, A. Humphrey, for her fifth of the day to make it 11-3.
- Nicole Humphrey nets one late in the third quarter, and for the second time in three games, all three Humphreys scored in the same game.
- The game was delayed due to weather at the third-quarter break and was ultimately abandoned.
- The Tar Heels held Notre Dame scoreless for 24 minutes over the second and third quarters, while the offense went on an 8-0 run.
- UNC outshot Notre Dame 25-18 and doubled their shots on goal, 22-11.
- The Heels also doubled ND's in groundballs, 14-7.
