Women’s Lacrosse Blows Past Clemson, 17-6, To Advance To Thursday’s Quarterfinal

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina women's lacrosse blew past Clemson, 17-6, in the NCAA Tournament second round on Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels will face Stanford on Thursday at Dorrance Field. The game time will be determined after second-round action is completed.
Clemson scored first and Carolina proceeded to run off 16 straight goals to force the blow out and a running clock. The Tigers scored with 12:35 left in the first quarter and didn't tally again until there were two minutes left in the third. The aggressive Tar Heel defense caused seven turnovers and Betty Nelson and Lexi Zenk combined for nine saves.
Chloe Humphrey led the way for the powerful Carolina attack, tying her single-game high of 11 points. She finished the day with seven goals and four assists. Reese King played a key role in the first-half run, posting the first hat trick of her career. Addison Pattillo and Caroline Godine also had hat tricks on the day.
The Heels dominated the draw again on Sunday. They won the category 16-5 behind Sarah Gresham, who had five, and Kaleigh Harden, who had four.

- After Betty Nelson made a few saves, Humphrey added a second on a feed from Kiley Mottice off a free position.
- Addison Pattillo cut through the middle of Clemson's defense and Eva Ingrilli found her for goal number three.
- Avery Roberts picked up a turnover and UNC transitioned quickly with Pattillo finding Humphrey for her third of the day.
- Pattillo notched her second of the day on a free position to make it 5-1 late in the first.
- Reese King buried her first right in the crease off a feed from Humphrey.
- Like an instant replay, King and Humphrey connect again for a 7-1 Heels lead.
- Humphrey cut from behind the net and Pattillo found her for a rocket finish and an 8-1 lead.
- Caroline Godine flashed to the middle and Humphrey found her for a 9-1 advantage.
