Three Wrestlers Victorious At Appalachian Open

BOONE, N.C. – Three Tar Heel wrestlers were victorious on Saturday, at the Appalachian Open.

Nicholas Fea (174), Marcus Murabito (184) and Robert Platt (197) finished atop the podium in their respective weight classes, with 12 Tar Heels placing in the solo-day tournament.

At 157 pounds, Joey Showalter finished runner-up, with heavyweight Nolan Neves capping off the day with a silver-medal finish.

Cameron Stinson Jr. (Third at 125), Derek Guanajuato (Third at 133) and Elias Navida (Third at 141) were victorious in the third-place matches out of the consolation bracket.

Capping off the Tar Heel finishes in the tournament, Marco Tocci (133), Nick O'Neill (149), Omaury Alvarez (165) and Nolan O'Boyle finished the day in fourth place.

Up next, the Tar Heels are set to host NC State on Friday, Jan. 31 inside Carmichael Arena. Action between Carolina and the Wolfpack is set for 7 PM, and tickets can be purchased here.
