No. 16 Wrestling Cruises To 26-10 Victory Over Virginia On Senior Night

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The 16^th-ranked North Carolina wrestling team cruised to a 26-10 victory over Virginia, Friday night inside Carmichael Arena.

Prior to the match, GA athletic trainer Megan Maxwell, Isaias Estrada, Aydin Guttridge, Gavin Kane, Spencer Moore, Sonny Santiago and Blaze Yawn were honored on Senior Night, for their contributions to the program during their time in Chapel Hill.

On the night, seven Tar Heels were victorious: Spencer Moore (125), Ethan Oakley (133), Lachlan McNeil (149), Sonny Santiago (157), Gavin Kane (184), Cade Lautt (197) and Nolan Neves (285).

Beginning the match at 149, the sixth-ranked McNeil utilized a first-period takedown and second-period reversal, clinching the 5-3 decision over UVA's Erik Roggie.

Next at 157, Santiago was victorious for the Tar Heels in the second frame via injury default, with 184-pounder Gavin Kane cruising to the 22-5 technical fall in the next Carolina victory.

At 197 and 285, Lautt and Neves sealed their back-to-back decisions with a late third-period score, pushing Carolina to a 20-7 edge in the dual.

Rounding out the Tar Heel wins on the evening, Moore (125) and Oakley (133) earned two-straight ranked wins for Carolina, over No. 31 Keyveon Roller and No. 32 Gable Porter, respectively.

Up next, the Tar Heels travel west to Stanford next Friday night. Action between Carolina and the Cardinal starts at 10 PM ET, with the match airing on ACCNX.
