Fencing Has Strong Showing At Philadelphia Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The North Carolina fencing team had a strong showing at the Philadelphia Invitational on Jan. 21. Both the sixteenth-ranked men and twenty-first ranked women's teams tallied victories over Sacred Heart, NJIT, Haverford and Lafayette. Individually, Casper Mika (saber) led the men's team with a 11-2 record on the weekend, while Sophia Kovacs (foil) led the women with a 11-3 showing.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION:
- During the second day of competition in Philadelphia, sophomore Elden Wood left early to travel to Boston to fence in the Junior Men's Sabre World Cup. Wood placed No. 14 out of 82 other fencers after losing his bout in the table of 16 by a single point (14-15)
