Fencing Ends Regionals With Seven Top-10 Finishes

MADISON, N.J. - North Carolina fencing posts seven top-ten finishes at Drew University to close the door on the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional.

Just like last year's regionals, Elden Wood finished fifth. Wood posted seven wins after advancing to the top 12 pool round. Wood took down three All-Americans: Kushkov Simon, Ronald Anglade, and Lilov Neil, who was also the national runner-up last year. Sophia Kovacs took down eight fencers in the top twelve portion of the day. Kovac took down two All-Americas, Vivan Lu and Alexandra Lee, to finish fourth.

Peter Bruk was the second men's fencer to finish in fifth place on the day, taking down Alan Zheng, a three-time All-America. Katie McGillion-Moore had the best day for the women's foil team, taking thirteenth.
Epee Recap
The men's epee squad had the best showing as a weapon group, with three fencers finishing in the top ten. Brayden Gyure finished in fifth. Eli Lippman took seventh, and Maximo Zafft finished right behind Lippman.Tatiana Zafft led the way for the women's epee squad, taking eighth as she got the best of the 2023-24 No. 1 junior women's épée fencer in the world, Leehi Machulsky.
North Carolina will have to wait until Tuesday, March 11 to find out which fencers were selected for the National Championships.
