Tar Heels Host New Hampshire for Senior Night

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina gymnastics hosts New Hampshire on Friday night for its last home meet of the season. The Hometown Heroes meet will honor first responders from the Chapel Hill area and campus staff that supports the women's gymnastics team at the beginning of the meet. After the meet, Carolina will recognize its three graduating seniors. The meet will begin at 6:45 p.m. in Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill and admission is free.
"We are looking forward to Friday night, senior night," said Carolina head coach Derek Galvin. "It is going to be an emotional evening for Madi [Madison Hargrave], Jamie [DeCicco] and Megan [Ruzicka]. We are excited to have one last time to shine at home this season."
Carolina comes into the meet ranked fifth in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League with an average score of 194.467. The Tar Heels lead the EAGL on vault, averaging 48.813 on the apparatus and has scored 48.900+ in four consecutive meets. Junior Khazia Hislop leads the EAGL on vault (9.850), beam (9.842) and floor (9.883) and remains the only gymnast to average 9.800+ on three or more events.
At the start of Friday's meet, the team will honor first responders and campus staff that work with the Carolina Gymnastics program. The team plans to show their gratitude by offering reserved seating and a meal for first responders and their families. During the meet, the honored guests will line the tunnel that Carolina runs out of.
"We are very pleased and feel privileged to honor some of our hometown heroes, first responders and other people in the community that don't get the credit that they deserve for the work that they do," Galvin commented. "We have representatives from the Campus Safety office as well as other people in the community that will be joining us and we look forward to honoring them." "
After the meet, Carolina's seniors- Jamie DeCicco, Madison Hargrave and Megan Ruzicka- will be honored for their contributions to the program. Fans are encouraged to stick around for the ceremony honoring the seniors.

Carolina opened the day on bars with a rotation score of 47.325. Grace Donaghy led the Tar Heels with a 9.725, finishing in sixth place. Mekyllah Williams finished with a 9.675 in seventh place. Drew Aldridge and Rylie Dewhurst finished in eighth and ninth with scores of 9.550 and 9.500, respectively.
"Unfortunately, it took us too long to get focused," said North Carolina coach Derek Galvin. "This is going to be a test of our resolve... We can't expect to be a team that expects to compete for an NCAA birth with that type of performance on bars."
The Tar Heels moved over to vault for their second rotation. With a team score of 48.950, Carolina continued it's streak of scoring 48.900+ to four consecutive meets. Leading the Tar Heels with scores of 9.850 was Mikayla Robinson and Khazia Hislop, tying for second place in the meet. Not far behind, Alexis Allen finished in fourth with a season-high score of 9.800.
On floor, Carolina had some uncharacteristic miscues that resulted in a rotation score of 48.200. Hislop led the Tar Heels with a 9.850 and tied for a second place finish. Robinson followed by tying her season high and scoring a 9.825 for her fourth consecutive meet, placing tied for fifth. Hargrave placed seventh with a 9.800.
Carolina dominated the beam with a score of 49.225. The Tar Heels placed four of the top-five in the event. Hislop and Jamie DeCicco won the event scoring 9.900, a career-high for DeCicco and her first career first place finish. Alexis Allen and Rylie Dewhurst tied for third in the event with scores of 9.850, a season-high for Allen and tying Dewhurst's career-high.

LAST WEEK
North Carolina (193.700) fell to NC State (195.850) Saturday afternoon in Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum to become 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League. THE OPPONENT
