Gymnastics Wins Metroplex Challenge

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 13 University of North Carolina gymnastics took home the Metroplex Challenge title Sunday night in Fort Worth. The Tar Heels recorded the highest team score of 196.375 to top no. 17 Auburn, no. 21 NC State, and Boise State.
All-Around
Both Gwen Fink and Sydney Seabrooks competed in the all-around for Carolina. Fink recorded a team-high 39.325 while Seabrooks recorded a 39.025. Fink's score earned her the all-around crown.
Rotation One – Vault (49.100)
UNC got off to a strong start on vault for the first rotation. Carolina recorded their second-best team score of the night with a 49.100. JoJo Valahovic and Kaya Forbes led the way for the Tar Heels taking first and second place on the event. Valahovic recorded her second 9.900 this season on the event to take home the event win.
Rotation Two – Bars (48.875)
Fink put together an impressive routine on bars to record a team-high of 9.925 to tie for first on the event. The senior's performance marks the second time this season she's scored a 9.900 or higher on bars. Paige Prejean also recorded a career-high of 9.850 on the event.
Rotation Three – Beam (49.350)
On their best rotation of the night, the Tar Heels recorded a 49.350 on beam. The team's performance is also a new season high. On beam, Carolina had two gymnasts record a 9.900 or higher. Fink once again led the way for the Tar Heels with a 9.950 to become the outright event winner.
Rotation Four – Floor (49.050)
The Tar Heels closed out the night on floor. Seabrooks notched a team-high 9.875 to take second on the event. Forbes also made an appearance in the top five with a score of 9.850.
