Baseball Hosting Duke For Non-Con Matchup

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Diamond Heels, a week removed from taking the road series against the Blue Devils, will play host to Duke once again for a non-conference one-off matchup as both teams come off their finals weeks.

Carolina took two of three against Duke in Durham last weekend (more on that on pg. 7) to claim its seventh straight ACC series and seventh straight series over their Tobacco Road rivals.

Sunday will make for the first time UNC and Duke face off more than three times in the same season since 2009, when the teams split 2-2 but the Heels won their game in the ACC tournament. They've only faced off four or more times in the same year 18 times since their mutual history began in 1891 and this will be the first time with all four happening in the regular season since 1952. They played five games in 1944, 1950, and 1953.

APPOINTMENT TELEVISION
➤ The series opener against Louisville was Carolina's first game of the season to appear on linear TV. The team is currently scheduled for 11 cable network selections, 10 on ACC Network and one appearance on ESPN2.
➤ With a wild card pick up for the Friday night game against NC State, Carolina now surpasses Clemson for the most selections in the conference.
➤ It is already the most TV slots in program history before you factor in "Wildcard" spots and postseason fixtures that could add to that number.
➤ Last season, the Heels held a 12-4 record in TV games and were 8-1 in the regular season in such fixtures.
➤ This year they are 6-2 in their network contests so far.

DYNAMITE BEHIND THE DISH
➤ Carolina's dynamic duo at catcher have been elite offensively and defensively, living up to the billing Coach Forbes gave as one of the best one-two punches behind the plate since Cody Roberts and current undergraduate assistant Brandon Martorano in '17/'18.
➤ Through 46 games, Winslow and Hynek have allowed just 15 steals on 25 attempts. That is tied with 2016 for the fewest stolen bases surrendered in that amount of games by UNC this century.
➤ Their 25 attempts faced in that stretch is the least since 2012.
➤ And its not like they've faced teams that don't run.
The Heels have faced the ACC's top-3 in stolen bases: Duke, Boston College, and Louisville.
➤ Those three teams, who have over 430 attempts between them, went a combined 3-7 against Carolina.
➤ It was BC's only blank weekend of 2026 as they set their program single-season record and it was the fewest for Louisville since 2024.
➤ Carolina leads the ACC in SBA by a wide margin. Louisville has the second fewest allowed with 29.

NO PLACE LIKE THE BOSH
➤ The Tar Heels have won 77.0 percent of their home games under Scott Forbes, going 165-49-1.
➤ The 2025 squad racked up a 29-9 (.763) home record, winning five of seven series.
➤ The Tar Heels boasted a 37-3 record at Boshamer Stadium in 2024, winning a program record 92.5 percent of its games at home.
➤ It was the 13th time in program history the Tar Heels won 30 or more home games.
