Gymnastics Falls To Stanford In Home Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 11 University of North Carolina gymnastics competed against no. 13 Stanford Sunday evening in Carmichael Arena. The Cardinal topped the Tar Heels 197.225-196.400.
Highlighting the evening for Carolina, JoJo Valahovic was the event winner on vault while Sydney Seabrooks had another dynamic performance on floor. Valahovic posted a 9.900 on vault while Seabrooks recorded her second consecutive 9.950 on floor.
While the Tar Heels may have fallen short against the Cardinals, they bettered their team score from last season against Stanford by .625.
All-Around
Gwen Fink finished third in the all-around with a score of 39.375. She recorded season-high scores on beam (9.900) and floor (9.850).
Rotation One – Vault (49.125)
Valahovic led both teams on vault with a score of 9.900. Kaya Forbes followed scoring a 9.875 to come in second on the event.
Rotation Two – Bars (48.775)
Neve King was in the lead off position for bars earning a 9.700. Fink led the Tar Heels on bars as she scored a 9.825.
Rotation Three – Beam (49.200)
Jessica Naranjo and Valahovic put together strong beam performances to each earn a 9.850. Yet again, Fink led the way for UNC with a score of 9.900. This marks one of just three Carolina scores of 9.900 or higher for the evening.
Rotation Four – Floor (49.300)
For the second straight week, Seabrooks totaled a 9.950 leading the team in the rotation and placing second overall for the night on floor. Forbes also earned a score of 9.875.
The Tar Heels are back in Carmichael Arena on Friday Jan. 23 to compete against Pitt. Action begins at 6:45 p.m. ET and will air on ACCNX. Tickets are available for purchase here.
