Ten Things to Know
- North Carolina is ranked No. 25 this week, its ninth straight week in the top 25.
- This week, the Tar Heels rank 22nd nationally on vault (49.08), 20th on bars (49.215), 21st on beam (49.14) and 40th on floor (49.095), all based on NQS. In the ACC, UNC ranks fourth on vault, third on bars and beam, and fifth on floor.
- UNC has 23 rotations of 49.0+ this year, including eight on bars. The team has scored 49.0+ in at least one event for 14 straight meets dating back to 2024. That's the second longest streak in school history.
- Lali Dekanoidze (bars) and JoJo Valahovic (vault) were named to the All-ACC Team. Dekanoidze earns the praise for the second year in a row, and Valahovic is one of two rookies named to the All-ACC Team and the only one on vault.
- With an NQS of 9.93 on bars, Dekanoidze ranks second in the ACC, second in the Southeast Region and eighth in the country. Her average bars score is 9.907. She is the reigning ACC champ on bars, winning the 2024 title outright with a 9.95.
- Seven of Dekanoidze's 10 bar routines this year have been 9.9+. She is on a five-meet streak of scoring 9.9+. She matched her school record of 9.975 on Jan. 24.
- Julia Knower was nominated for the prestigious AAI Award. She has 199 career routines and 49 career all-around performances as of March 17. All five of her top scores rank in the top eight on UNC's all-time list.
- Valahovic won four straight ACC Newcomer of the Week awards this year, all in February. She's the first gymnast in ACC Gymnastics history to win the honor more than two times. She is the only ACC freshman to score a 9.95+ on beam.
- Last time out vs. Western Michigan on March 14 at home, UNC set a season-high 196.75. That's the sixth highest score in school history, and the best in the Durante era. It was the first time all year Carolina had 49.0+ on every rotation.
- Four Tar Heels earned All-ACC Championship Team honors a season ago for top six finishes on their respective events: Dekanoidze (bars), Isabelle Schaefer (bars), Jessica Naranjo (beam) and Knower (floor).
