Men's Golf Wins 4th Title This Season With Record Result In Hawai'i

Dylan Menante made six birdies in a row and shot 29 on the back nine Saturday to lead the University of North Carolina to another record-setting day and the team title at the Amer Ari Invitational at the Mauna Lani North Course in Waimea, Hawai'i.
UNC shot 22 under par today to finish the three-day event 68-under 796. Carolina obliterated its previous 54-hole records for fewest strokes and most under par. The previous records were 814 strokes in the 2021 ACC Championship at the Capital City Club's Crabapple Course in Milton, Ga.
and 49 under par in the 2017-18 Tar Heel Intercollegiate at UNC Finley Golf Course.
The Tar Heels won their fourth tournament in six starts this season and their 19th in Andrew DiBitetto's seven seasons as head coach.
Carolina led by three strokes after each of the first two rounds, but Arizona State surged to an eight-shot lead by shooting 15 under par through just five holes. The Sun Devils got to 54 under par for the tournament. The Tar Heels rallied though midway on the back nine to pull even at 60 under.
The Tar Heels played the back nine a combined 16 under par.
Menante began his round on the third hole and made pars on each of his first seven holes. The fifth-year senior from Carlsbad, Calif., then birdied the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th holes and closed the back side with another birdie on 18. He finished with a 7-under, Carolina's low round of the day.
David Ford, Peter Fountain and Austin Greaser each shot 5-under 67s today. Freshman Hampton Roberts shot 68 as an individual entry and Maxwell Ford shot even-par 72.
Arizona State finished 63 under par, five shots behind the Tar Heels. Top-ranked Auburn was third at 58 under, Texas Tech and Washington were 57 under and Georgia Tech shot 50 under and finished sixth.
David Ford shot 64-68-67 to tie for fourth at 17-under 199. He is the fifth Tar Heel to ever shoot under 200 in a tournament, joining Ben Griffin, Ryan Burnett (twice), Ryan Gerard and William Register. Ford's 17 under par and 199 total equal the third best by a Tar Heel.
Menante (65-70-65) was seventh at 16-under 200, Fountain (68-67-66) tied for eighth at 15-under 201, Greaser (70-66-67) tied for 19th at 13-under 203 and Maxwell Ford (65-68-762) tied for 33rd at 11-under 205.
Roberts (67-74-68) tied for 55th at 7-under 209.
Arizona State's Wenyi Ding won medalist honors with a 27-under 189, shooting 63-64-62 over the three days. He made an eagle, 26 birdied and only one bogey for the tournament.
For the tournament, Carolina tied for the lead with six eagles and was second with 93 birdies, one behind Arizona State. The Tar Heels were 47 under par on the par 5s.
In the fall, UNC won the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, the Williams Cup and the East Lake Cup.
The Tar Heels return to action February 25-27 in Las Vegas at the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
