Gymnastics Welcomes Clemson To Carmichael Arena Friday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina gymnastics team is back in Carmichael Arena on Friday, Jan. 26, to host Clemson for another key Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. It will be the first meeting between the two teams in program history.
Introductions will start at 7:15 p.m. ET with action set to commence at 7:30 p.m. The meet will air on ACCNX with Matt Krause and Julie Chapman on call.

The meet will be a "Frost Yourself" theme and fans are encouraged to wear white. There will be a Carolina Gymnastics T-shirt giveaway for the first 300 fans.

Ten Things to Know
- 2024 marks the first gymnastics season in the ACC. The league previously sponsored a conference championship for women's gymnastics in 1984.
- Friday will be the first-ever meet between Carolina and Clemson in program history, as the Tigers added gymnastics as a varsity sport on June 17, 2021.
- North Carolina and NC State tied for first in the inaugural ACC Preseason Coaches Poll after receiving a pair of first-place votes.Â
- Lali Dekanoidze and Julia Knower were named to the first-ever ACC Preseason Watch List. Freshman Camryn Rueda was tabbed to the inaugural ACC Newcomer Watch List.Â
- Dekanoidze was named the first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 9 after scoring a 9.925 on vault, a new career high and moving up to be tied for third all-time in school history.
- Isabelle Schaefer became the program's first ACC Specialist of the Week on Jan. 15, earning the honor after matching her career-high 9.925 on bars.
- Dekanoidze's 9.925 on vault and Schaefer's 9.925 on bars are the highest scores in the conference on their respective events heading into week four of competition.
- UNC's final tally of 49.150 on vault in its season and home opener was the team's best score on the event since Feb. 19, 2022.
- The Tar Heels have improved their team score every week so far this season. Their last outing on Jan. 19 vs. NC State saw season-highs on beam (48.9) and floor (49.0).Â
- In the ACC, UNC ranks third on vault (average 48.933) and beam (48.525), and fourth on bars (48.783) and floor (48.492). Nationally, the Tar Heels are 33rd on vault, 39th on bars, 46th on beam and 59th on floor.Â
