Gymnasts Set For EAGL Championship On Saturday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The third-seeded Carolina gymnastics team will open postseason play Saturday at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship in Washington D.C.
The Tar Heels, the 2022 EAGL regular-season champions, will compete in session two of the championship at 6 p.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center on the campus of George Washington University.
Carolina, who's session also includes Towson, NC State and George Washington, will start the meet off on bars, moving to beam, then floor before finishing on vault.
This will be the first time this season that the Tar Heels compete on podium, which is a raised platform, and first postseason appearance under first-year head coach Danna Durante.

Knower Claims Final EAGL Rookie of the Week
Freshman Julia Knower clinched the final conference rookie of the week honor on Wednesday, her third EAGL Rookie of the Week recognition of the season. In Carolina's final regular-season meet at No. 24 Georgia on March 12, the Mandeville, La., native, earned her third straight all-around title, setting a new career-best of 39.400. In Athens, Knower also matched her career-bests on floor (9.90) and bars (9.825). She finished the regular season tied as the No. 1 all-arounder in the EAGL, No. 3 on beam and No. 10 on the floor.
The Tar Heels are looking for their sixth conference title in program history and first since 2011. The meet is also important for Carolina's regional aspirations. Currently, the Tar Heels rank No. 33 in the NCAA according to Road to Nationals national qualifying score (NQS).
