
Gymnastics Travels to William & Mary for Saturday Afternoon Match-Up

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina women's gymnastics team will travel to Williamsburg, Virginia for their first of two competitions in back-to-back weekends against William & Mary. The meet is set to take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will be William & Mary's second competition of the 2021 season.
Last weekend, North Carolina competed in a Tri-meet with Temple at North Carolina State University and took second place. The team's combined score of 195.000 secured them a win over Temple (194.800), and a loss to NC State (196.200).
Following the seventh week of East Atlantic Gymnastics League competition, North Carolina holds a record of 9-2 (7-1 EAGL).
LAST WEEK
North Carolina women's gymnastics took second place in the Tri-meet at NC State on Saturday with a score of 195.000. North Carolina State University earned first with a score of 196.200, and Temple took third with a score of 194.800.
Following the first rotation, the Tar Heels were in the lead over both teams by a .075 margin, but both teams were close behind.
In the first rotation, Sophomores Hannah Nam and Elizabeth Culton led the team with scores of 9.825 on floor exercise. This was the highest score Nam had posted on the event since February 12. The Sophomores were trailed by fellow Sophomore transfer Brianna Greenlow who posted a 9.800. Tallying behind Greenlow were Sophomore Julianna Weil and Freshman Kate Greene with scores of 9.725.
In the second rotation on vault, Junior Drew Aldridge led the team with a 9.825 on the event. Redshirt Freshman Hallie Thompson was close behind with her own score of 9.800. Sophomores Sophie Silverstein's score of 9.775, and Elizabeth Culton's 9.750 were also stand-out performances for the Tar Heels on this event.
Following the second rotation, the Tar Heels trailed NC State 97.950-97.800. Up next, North Carolina headed to the uneven bars.
Sophomore Elizabeth Culton led the team on the event with a score of 9.850. Junior Emery Summey and Greenlow were close behind with scores of 9.825. Hallie Thompson had the next-highest score with a 9.725 on the event. Sophomore Hannah Nam rounded out the Tar Heels scores with her own 9.700.
After the third rotation, the Tar Heels held a score of 146.725 in second place behind NC State's 147.100.
In the final rotation on balance beam, the Tar Heels posted a team score of 48.225. Elizabeth Culton led the team with a score of 9.850, trailed closely by Nam and Summey with scores of 9.775. Thompson added to the team's score with her own 9.750.
Elizabeth Culton earned second place in the all-around competition with a combined score of 39.275 to tie her personal best.
THE OPPONENT
William & Mary's first competition this season was on February 19 at NC State against Oklahoma State and George Washington. The team took fourth place in Raleigh with a score of 189.450.
This Saturday's competition will be William & Mary's Senior Night.
