Plenty of Highlights on Day 2 at ACC Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. – For North Carolina, Day 2 of the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships was highlighted by a spate of strong performances in prelims and lots of Tar Heels looking forward to competing in finals on Saturday.
The Tar Heel milers were strong across the board, with three men and two women reaching the finals. Brandon Tubby (4:02.85) and Thomas Ratcliffe (4:03.57) turned in the two fastest times in the men's mile, both winning their heats. Allen Siegler was eighth overall in 4:05.29 and also advanced to the final.
In the women's mile, both freshman Taryn Parks and senior Emmeline Fisher advanced to the finals based on times. Parks was fifth overall in 4:47.17 and Fisher was eighth with a three-second personal best 4:48.24 to earn the 10th and final qualifying spot.
Other highlights:
• In the men's 60 meters, two Tar Heels punched tickets to the finals. Saypadia DeSaussure ran a lifetime-best 6.82 for seventh overall and Qhiyal Towns placed eighth in 6.84.
• In the men's 400 meters, Isaiah Palmer ran a 46.80, the second-fastest performance, to reach the final. Craig Saddler finished 15th in qualifying and didn't make the final but ran a PR of 47.80 – more than a second faster than his previous lifetime best (indoor or outdoor).
• Senior Paige Hofstad ran a season-best 16:20.40 to finish sixth in the women's 5K.
UNC sits fifth in the men's standings with 22 points and is tied for sixth in the women's standings with 18.5 points.
