Three Tar Heels Set To Compete at 2026 U-20 World Championships

UNC will have three student-athletes representing the Tar Heels at the U20 World Athletics Champioinships this week at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., as Tori Goodson, Ellie Barada and Joe Martin have each earned a spot on their respective national teams.
Goodson, who will be a sophomore during the 2026-27 season, will represent the United States at the prestigious championships. She earned her place with Team USA after running the fifth-fastest time in program history in the 100m hurdles clocking a 13.15.
Joining Goodson are incoming freshmen Barada and Martin, who will both make their Carolina debuts following the competition. Barada will represent Team USA in the women's 800m after finishing second at the USATF U20 Championships with a personal-best time of 2:02.72. The World Championships will serve as her final race before arriving to Chapel Hill.
Martin, a native of New Zealand, will compete for his country in the men's 800m. The New He owns a personal best time of 1:48.25 in the event. Martin stands as one of 18 athletes to represent New Zealand at this year's U20 World Championship.
