
Tar Heels Take First Place

Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina beat George Washington University 195.725-192.525 Friday, which marked the Heels' best team total of the season. Senior Elizabeth Durkac took first all-around at 39.275, and senior Morgan Evans took second with 38.900.
UNC was on vault first, and won the event with a 48.875 total. Evans was first individually, scoring a 9.850, which ties her personal best. Senior Zoya Johnson was second at 9.825, and sophomore Kristin Aloi was third earning a 9.850, beating her personal best of 9.775. Senior Taylor Brown tied for fourth place at 9.775. Durkac and freshman Haley Watts rounded out the event, each at 9.725.
Next, the Heels competed on the uneven bars, taking the event with a total of 48.900. Senior Zoya Johnson earned first place with a 9.875, setting a new personal best which was previously 9.825. Durkac came in second, tying her personal best of 9.850. Evans followed in third with a 9.825. Sophomore Acacia Cosentino tied for fourth at 9.725, and Brown completed bars at 9.625.
Carolina finished at 48.850 to win on balance beam. Junior Maura Masatsugu was the top gymnast at 9.875. Durkac came in second at 9.825. Senior Krista Jasper and freshman Janell Sargent tied with 9.725, and Watts followed with 9.700.
The Heels finished on floor exercise, winning the event with a 49.000. Aloi and Durkac tied for first on the event with a 9.875, tying Aloi's personal best and beating Durkac's of 9.825. Brown scored a 9.800, good for fourth place. Jasper and Watts each scored a 9.725 to finish the event.
Durkac took home her third all-around title of the season at a 39.275, beating her personal best of 39.225. Evans came in second with a 38.900. George Washington's Stephanie Stoicovy placed third with a 38.875.
Carolina's next meet is Friday, March 2 at 7:00 at Penn State in a tri-meet with the Nittany Lions and Michigan.
